Accessibility

1. The Short Version

Cipher & Spirit supports VoiceOver and Voice Control on iOS and TalkBack and Voice Access on Android, larger text up to 200 percent, reduced motion, increased contrast, a fully dark interface, and controls that never rely on color alone. The app honors these settings from your device automatically, and lets you adjust some of them inside the app as well.

If you change nothing, you get the standard app. Turn a feature on, in your device settings or in the app, and Cipher & Spirit adapts to match.

2. How Your Settings Apply

A feature is active if your device has it turned on, or if you turn it on inside the app. The in-app Accessibility page is a superset of your system settings, never a replacement. You never have to choose between them.

Because the app reads your device settings directly, the screen reader, voice control, and larger text work the moment you open Cipher & Spirit, with no setup required.

3. Screen Readers and Voice Control

Buttons, cards, and controls carry clear spoken labels and the right roles, so your screen reader, VoiceOver on iOS or TalkBack on Android, announces what each element is and what it does. Toggles, such as a favorite heart or an add-to-bar button, announce whether they are on or off.

Decorative artwork is hidden from the screen reader so it does not clutter navigation, and the surrounding card carries the name instead. Every primary task flow, from browsing the library to building a drink and managing your bar, is reachable and operable by voice, with Voice Control on iOS or Voice Access on Android.

4. Larger Text

The app supports larger text up to 200 percent, the target both Apple and Google recommend. As text grows, layouts reflow rather than clip: dense grids collapse into single-column rows, cards switch to a wide layout that gives the name room to breathe, and compact chrome is capped so it stays legible without breaking.

5. Reduced Motion

When reduced motion is on, set as Reduce Motion on iOS or Remove Animations on Android, page transitions become a simple fade, parallax and decorative animations are stilled, and effects like the spinning roulette and the shaker rattle are held in place. The results and haptics still happen. Only the motion is removed.

6. Increased Contrast

Body text already meets WCAG AA contrast at its baseline. When increased contrast is on, set in your device settings or directly on the app's Accessibility page, body text brightens across the app and card outlines strengthen, making the most-read screens easier to scan.

7. Dark Interface

Cipher & Spirit uses a dark interface throughout, designed to be easy on the eyes in the low-light settings where cocktails are often made and enjoyed.

8. Color Is Never the Only Signal

Every state that uses color is also paired with a shape, an icon, or a label, so meaning never depends on color alone:

• Owned and missing ingredients use distinct filled and outlined icons.
• Makeable drinks show a check; locked ones show a lock.
• Allergens carry a warning icon and a "Contains Allergen" label.
• Alcohol-free drinks are marked with a "0% ABV" label.
• Ratings are read by glass shape, not just color.

9. The In-App Accessibility Page

Inside the app, the Accessibility page lives in the More menu. It offers Reduce Motion and Increase Contrast switches that layer on top of your system settings, so you can fine-tune the experience without leaving the app or changing your device-wide preferences.

10. Audio and Video

Cipher & Spirit contains no video and no narrated audio, only optional sound effects. There is no spoken or recorded content that would require captions or audio descriptions.
