History
The Black Velvet was created in 1861 at Brooks's Club in London, reputedly so that even the Champagne could mourn the death of Prince Albert. The layered blend of stout and sparkling wine 'dresses' the bubbly in black, and the drink has been a curiosity of British clubland ever since.
