History
The Scofflaw was created at Harry's New York Bar in Paris in 1924, taking its name from a brand-new American word — coined that year in a contest — for someone who flouted, or 'scoffed at,' Prohibition's liquor laws. Rye, dry vermouth, lemon and grenadine make a tart, ruby-colored drink.
