History
The Mai Tai was created by Victor 'Trader Vic' Bergeron at his Oakland restaurant in 1944. He served his blend of aged Jamaican rum, lime, orgeat and curaçao to visiting Tahitian friends, one of whom exclaimed 'Maita'i roa ae!' — 'out of this world, the very best.' Rival tiki impresario Don the Beachcomber claimed an earlier 1933 creation, and the two feuded over it for years.
