History
The Americano began life as the Milano-Torino at Gaspare Campari's bar in Milan in the 1860s, combining Campari (from Milan) with vermouth (from Turin). It earned the name 'Americano' in the early 20th century, popularly attributed to its favor among American tourists during Prohibition; topped with soda, it became the lighter ancestor of the Negroni.
