History
The Boulevardier — a Negroni built on whiskey instead of gin — is credited to Erskine Gwynne, an American writer and socialite in 1920s Paris who published a magazine of the same name. The recipe of bourbon (or rye), Campari and sweet vermouth appears in Harry McElhone's 1927 Barflies and Cocktails.
