History
The Sherry Cobbler was a sensation in 1800s America — sherry shaken with sugar and orange, served over crushed ice. It helped popularize both crushed ice and the drinking straw, and Charles Dickens gave it lasting fame in his 1844 novel Martin Chuzzlewit, where a character is astonished by his first taste.
