History

The Suffering Bastard was created by bartender Joe Scialom at the Shepheard's Hotel in Cairo around 1942, reputedly as a hangover cure for British officers during the North Africa campaign. A blend of gin, brandy, lime, bitters and ginger beer, it was so popular that batches were said to have been sent to troops at the front at El Alamein.
